wonderful weekend

i had a wonderful weekend! did you? the birthday surprise for janet, matt's mum, was a night on the gold coast in a big apartment with ocean views and an evening at 'the outback spectacular' with her whole family, including me her surrogate fourth child! it was great fun, experiencing something exciting and different together. we knew janet would love it as she has been wanting to go for years now and used to ride horses when she was young. the set up was impressive, the show was amazing, the three course meal was delicious and the whole event was run so efficiently. i also learned more about our own history and have been inspired to read some books and find out even more. i really recommend going, it's a great night out especially as a family. we had our photo taken with digger, a border collie from the show, as a memento and of course we each took home our own cowboy hat. i wish we had longer there, although it would have meant more shopping and dining out - two things i am currently trying to avoid. we went to a buffet breakfast on sunday morning and i was delighted to find they had coco pops! we never had coco pops or fruit loops or any of those sugary cereals as kids unless we were very lucky or were camping and it came in one of those boxed cereal packages. genius! but never fair when you are one of three kids - chances were you'd end up with sultana bran and cornflakes if you didn't get in quick enough. i hope matt, jase, amy and ian enjoyed our little trip as much as i did. i love family outings. i know that janet had an amazing time, she sent us all the most beautiful text to say so. happy birthday janet, we love you. xo
